May Minimalist: Playing The 30 Day Minimalism Game
I can’t stand clutter or mess. I like my home to be organised and look lovely. I enjoy periodically decluttering the house. That said, theres always stuff that creeps into the house or lingers for longer than it really should. A friend posted yesterday on instagram that they were playing the minimalism game this month and I was intrigued. What was this minimalism game and how do you play?! Turns out its really simple so May is now Minimalism month!
Created by The Minimalists, the 30 Day Game itself is straightforward: day 1 toss one item; day 2 its two items etc until you get to 31 days and its 31 items! By the end of the month I’ll have purged 476 items from our home. Thats insane! The best part is you can toss anything! Clothes, books, toiletries, kitchenware, towels etc are all up for grabs to be donated, sold, recycled or just binned. I don’t really want to bin items so i’ll be focusing on the first three options.
Days one and two have been very easy to play. I’ve recycled a wooden candle holder block, a puzzle book and an old notebook, all from tidying up. My tactic is to leave clothing and toiletries to the end of the month when I have more items to throw out each day.
I’m already in nesting mode- baby Kerr is due in seven weeks- so this really is perfect timing for me as I get the nursery ready and prepare to add another person and their things to the house. Also I was in need of a refresh on my focus for the year- simplicity- and this 30 day game is ideal.
I’ll do updates on instagram throughout the month so follow along there and at the end of the 30 day game I’ll report back on how it went.
