Minimalist September Update
Minimalist September is over! Did I manage to throw out all 930 items like planned? Read on to find out.
If you follow me on Instagram you already know the answer is a resounding- YES. In fact I ended up throwing out so much more, I stopped counting.
I am so glad to be carrying less stuff into our new home. It makes me happy to think of items getting a new lease of life by selling to people or donating them to people who want them.
There is still a lot of stuff that we just didn’t have time to get through- hello attic - and I will still have far to many boxes to unpack next month. The minimalist Challenge is definitely worth doing when I need a decluttering boost. I’ve already said to my husband it’ll be the great declutter of 2020!
Double target: Doable! It’s kinda sad that’s the case but at the same time if you really want to get stuck into decluttering I highly recommend it.
Kids clothes: I could pretty much do the whole challenge with clothes. I had kept most of my toddlers clothes in case we were having another girl so I had all that to get rid of. She never had a huge wardrobe at each stage but with eight sizes worth of clothes and shoes it soon adds up.
Just like my previous experience ‘playing’ the challenge is a thought provoking introduction to minimalism and decluttering. I read that women especially react physically to having to much clutter in their homes so anything I can do to lighten our home I’m all in. Our home never looks full because we keep it tidy, have clear surfaces but the cupboards are another story!
Minimalism isn’t something you do once, it’s a complete shift in how you live and create your home- least it is to me. It’s ongoing. It’s a work in progress. Now that I’ve found it I am thinking more and more about what we buy and bring into our home. That’s a good attitude shift in itself.
Here’s to less. And if you’re still not sure it’s for you or that you can’t declutter- I Challenge you to go through one drawer or shelf. See what you really need and go from there.
