New City, New Start
Moving back to your hometown can sometimes feel like a backwards step. Honestly for a while I was pretty annoyed that I had to move back! But here I am back in Aberdeen after five years away and making the most of this latest adventure. Knowing it was inevitable ‘new city, new start’ gradually became my mantra!
Its scary to leave your home when it holds so many memories. We lived in North Berwick, a gorgeous little seaside town in East Lothian, for almost four years. During that time we got married, had a baby, made friends and a life for ourselves. There were roots there and to then move away was both terrifying and exciting to me.
Like I said Aberdeen is my hometown and my husband lived here for about eight years so it wasn’t unfamiliar to us but it was still a huge change especially now that we had a toddler in tow. I didn’t know what activities there were for our daughter, where would we live, where to get my nails done and most importantly where could I get a good oat milk latte and babyccino?! You know the important questions!
In the spirit of being intentional and positive- which is something I’ll talk a lot about here- I began to make a list of things we could do and places to go. I also took a moment to see the move for what it was- a fresh start, new chapter whatever you want to call it. That shift made the move more positive and focussing on that has made Aberdeen 2.0 pretty successful so far.
The best part of this move is that after almost a year of split living our family is now all under one roof and we no longer have to make weekly trips up and down the A90. Bliss!
Surprisingly I am really loving living in Aberdeen, its only been three months but I feel that having a solid base is finally allowing us all to thrive. The city has changed, I’ve changed and I am ready for all this new chapter has to offer.
